There is an ongoing untreated wastewater discharge from Moa Point. We strongly recommend the public stay out of the water on the South coast of Wellington. Do not collect kai moana.

Wellington Water is responding to a significant incident at the Moa Point Wastewater Treatment Plant which has resulted in untreated wastewater discharging into Tarakena Bay on the south coast.

We are replacing about 2,496 metres of pipe in in Moult Street, Keith Hart Grove, Downes Street, Morere Street and part of Dimock Street. These pipes are up to 70 years old and in poor condition.

This is part of our ongoing work to deliver a more reliable supply of safe drinking water to your home and to reduce the risk of emergency repairs or outages.

We are replacing about 2,496 metres of pipe in in Moult Street, Keith Hart Grove, Downes Street, Morere Street and part of Dimock Street. These pipes are up to 70 years old and in poor condition.  

Two crews will be working simultaneously to ensure we complete the work as soon as possible.

The work site is mobile so will move as the work progresses. Work is starting on 2 March with completion expected late May. 

  • Crew 1 will start in Dimock Street for a period of approximately six weeks
  • Crew 2 will start in Keith Hart Grove and Moult Street for a period of approximately six weeks
  • Crew 1 will then move to Morere Street for a period of approximately five weeks
  • Crew 2 will then move to Dowes Street for a period of approximately six weeks.

Hours of work will be between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Friday with work on Saturday if required.

Water supply will be disrupted for short periods only when disconnecting and reconnecting supply. We will be in contact in advance to make you aware.

This work is likely to create some noise disturbance however we will endeavour to reduce this where possible.

There may be stop/go and detours in place, please follow the instructions from the traffic management team.

As the work will be taking place in the road corridor, there may be temporary restriction to on-street parking. 
Our contractors will do their best to keep residents advised the day before as to which part of the road they will be working and ask that you avoid parking in these areas.

  • Your assistance in avoiding parking in the intended work zone will help us get the work completed as quickly as possible.
  • Please be aware that if your vehicle is found within the intended work zone, it may be relocated by PCC parking enforcement staff to an available car park close by.
