Unanticipated changes within the wastewater network
Wellington Water, on behalf of Porirua City Council, are working to address the wet weather overflows along Mana Esplanade.
After some unanticipated changes within the wastewater network, we are continuing with the current project to ensure the best longer-term outcome is achieved.
Work will be taking place on 17 February 2026, in the manholes located within the footpath outside 38 Mana Esplanade, and 30 Mana Esplanade. These works will be completed by early afternoon.
You will notice large trucks stationed in the clearway for the duration of these works however we will ensure private property access is retained. You may experience some noise and odour.
It is not expected that the works will interrupt any of your services.

Further wet weather delay
After a further wet weather delay, the traffic management has been completely removed and the work remediating the wastewater network in this area is due to complete mid-week.
Wet weather delays
Recent wet weather has caused delays for our crew working on the ground. This will mean the end date will be pushed out by a few days. Work is now expected to be completed by 8 February 2025.
Construction work has begun
Construction works started on 12 January 2026 on the road outside the Presbyterian Church. This will require a temporary closure of the parking lane on the southbound clearway.
Our works will then progress further south along Mana Esplanade, with traffic management in place as the work proceeds to ensure the safety of staff and the public.
The project is expected to be completed by 5 February 2026.
As part of this work, the Plimmerton roundabout/ James Street pump station will be shut down from 9.00am and 2.30pm on Tuesday 13 January 2026. This will require wastewater to be trucked to Paremata pump station while the new pipes are being installed. This work will not disrupt your wastewater services.
