Latest Updates
Wellington Water, on behalf of Wellington City Council, is proactively replacing approximately 25 metres of drinking water pipe on Connaught Terrace, Brooklyn.
Since the installation of this water main in 2021, we have identified possible risks with the type of welds used in its construction. This project will minimize the risk of future failure, which would create significant disruption and loss of water supply to residents.
The works involve:
- excavations in the road between 12 and 16 Connaught Terrace to identify and measure the length of pipe that will be replaced
- re-sealing the road temporarily while the new section of pipe is assembled and tested off-site
- returning in February to replace the pipe, which will require a water shutdown
- reinstating the road surface one the replacement is complete.
One lane will be closed with a stop-go system in place during working hours. The lane will be reopened in the evenings and on weekends. Residents who need to enter or leave their driveways will be guided by traffic controllers.
The works are being undertaken by Fulton Hogan.
All Updates
After assembling the new pipe section off site, our contractors Fulton Hogan are returning to Connaught Terrace this week to install it.
There will be a drinking water shutdown on Wednesday 4 February so the existing pipe can be safely disconnected and removed. We expect the water supply to be interrupted for about four and a half hours.
This work is being done proactively to prevent issues arising in future due to the type of welds originally used in constructing the water main.
The trench will be backfilled and the road surface will be rEinstated on Thursday, with all works completed and the road clear and open from Friday.
