Media release: Garden watering restrictions increase to sprinkler ban

Due to increasing water demand and falling river levels, a residential sprinkler and irrigation system ban will take effect in Upper Hutt, Lower Hutt, Porirua and Wellington from midnight tonight, Friday 12 February 2021.

Media release: Residential sprinkler and outdoor irrigation system ban will be in place for Featherston and Greytown

Due to an increase in water demand and low river flows, a residential sprinkler and irrigation system ban in Featherston and Greytown will take effect from 5:00pm on Tuesday 12 January 2021.

Work begins on upgrading the Porirua wastewater treatment plant

Work has begun to upgrade the Porirua Wastewater Treatment Plant, with the installation of new ultra-violet (UV) disinfection equipment that will increase the volume of wastewater that can be disinfected.

Metropolitan Wellington faces significant pressure on the delivery of safe and reliable drinking water to communities. Due to ageing pipes and reservoirs, population growth and increasing demand, and the need to look after the health and mauri of our water sources, the region needs to take action to address how much water it is using.

Hutt residents asked for views on improving the wastewater network to reduce overflows

Wellington Water is asking for public input about the impact of any wastewater overflows in their local area.

Water main burst - Severn Street Island Bay

The number of properties in Severn Street affected by the water outage has been reduced from 250 properties to 70 (between 15-77 Severn Street).

However, those left without water to their homes will have another significant wait until service can be restored – the estimated time of repair is at least 8 hours.

All Martinborough residents and businesses are urged to conserve water

Repairs at the treatment plant have been successful, and we are currently working to bring the plant back online.

Thanks again to the residents of Martinborough for their conservation efforts so far. We continue to ask residents to keep their conservation efforts up through the weekend until Monday to assist with reservoir recovery.
