Keeping our drinking water safe

If you’re heading down to Greytown’s Soldiers Memorial Park this spring, you’ll notice crews working at the Water Treatment Plant.

As part of their programme of continued improvement to the water network in South Wairarapa, Wellington Water will be replacing a wastewater pipe that runs next to the bore in the Park.

“We identified that this pipe may be at risk of failure, to prevent any chance of contamination we fast-tracked our plans to replace and divert it,” says Wellington Water’s Project Manager, Adam Mattsen.

“It’s important that this community has a long-lasting and reliable water network, and this is the first stage of work planned to upgrade the infrastructure located in the Park.”

Locals will be pleased to know that they will have access to the sports grounds at Memorial Park at weekends, with crews working to clear the site on Friday afternoons.

“As always, we will do our best to minimise any disruption, and we really appreciate the patience and understanding of the local community,” says Mattsen.

This work is scheduled to be complete before the summer pool opens end of November.
