On behalf of Greater Wellington, we are renewing and repairing the bulk drinking water pipe which supplies the northern and western suburbs of Wellington.
Wellington Water, on behalf of Greater Wellington Regional Council, is repairing and replacing sections of a major drinking water pipeline which runs through Takapū Valley, crossing the stream at several points. This pipeline is a critical asset which supplies drinking water from Te Mārua Treatment Plant to the northern and western suburbs of Wellington.
This project involves:
-
Excavating around several sections of pipe, applying a new coating to protect them from corrosion, then re-burying them
-
Constructing a new section of pipe away from the streambed, to reduce the number of crossing points
-
Adding riprap where the pipe crosses the stream to prevent future erosion and support native fish
The project is expected to be completed by May.
Due to erosion in the stream bed, several sections of pipe have become exposed, and are at risk of corrosion and damage, which creates a risk of water outages and damage to Takapū Stream.
