BOIL WATER NOTICE - THOMPSON STREET, MOUNT COOK
BOIL WATER OUTAGE - THOMPSON STREET, MOUNT COOK

Wellington Water advises that residents of all properties on Thompson Street, Mt Cook, must boil their water before it is used for drinking, food preparation or dental hygiene.

Once the  burst pipe on Thompson Street is repaired, there is a low risk that the water has been contaminated with bacteria. The bacteria can be killed by boiling which is why a boil water notice has been issued as a precaution.

We will advise once the repair is completed and water service has been restored. This boil water notice is in effect from 2pm Friday 13th June 2025 until further notice.

Latest Updates

4 June 2025 Crews make their way up Logan Street, traffic management remains in place

Crews continue to work their way up Logan Street laying the wastewater pipe. We expect to complete the works by early to mid-August.

9 May 2025 Work starts Monday on the wastewater pipe replacement

On Monday, 12 May we start work installing a new wastewater pipe along Logan Street. Here’s the key things to keep in mind...

Wellington Water will soon start work replacing wastewater (sewerage) pipes along Logan Street in Upper Hutt, in between the McParland Street intersection and the Queen Street roundabout. This is required as the current pipes are ageing and in poor condition. The new pipes will provide a more reliable and resilience wastewater service for the community.

Here’s the key information for local residents and businesses to be aware of:

• We’re expecting to start construction work on the 28 April 2025, and finish by July/August
• We’ll start work where Sinclair Street intersects with Logan Street, before moving onto the McParland Street
and Logan Street intersection where we’ll start laying the new wastewater pipe.
• We’ll be laying the new pipe all the way up Logan Street, up until the Queen St roundabout. We’ll do the
work in sections.
• We’re also realigning a drinking water pipe along the same stretch of road, to allow us to lay the new
wastewater pipe.
• Contractors E Carsons and Sons Ltd are doing the work.

What is the expected impact?

• We’re laying the new pipe along the eastern side of Logan Street, including an area where parking is
currently located. As we’ll be digging a trench along the eastern side of the road, parking and traffic will be
impacted while the work takes place.
• We’ll have traffic management in place to direct traffic during work hours, which is Monday to Friday 7am5pm.
• Some of the parking along the eastern side of Logan Street will be unavailable while the work takes place. As
we’re doing the work in sections, we’ll aim to minimise this impact as much as we can.
• This work won’t impact residents access to their property although people may need to move their vehicle
away from the work area at times.
• There will be some noise on site due to the heavy machinery involved.
• A temporary water shutdown is required for a short period while we do the work. We’ll let you know in
advance who is impacted by this and when this will be.

4 June 2025 Crews make their way up Logan Street, traffic management remains in place

Crews continue to work their way up Logan Street laying the wastewater pipe, which will extend all the way to the Queens Street roundabout once complete. We expect to complete the works by early to mid-August.

We’ve also realigned the drinking water pipe, and we’ll be connecting this into the network in the coming weeks.

We’ll let residents and businesses know in advance of any temporary water shutdowns.

Traffic management remains in place, with part of Logan Street down to one lane so crews can safely install the pipe. When we reach the Sinclair Street intersection, we plan to have two lanes of traffic flowing again for the remainder of the project.

A big thanks again to Logan Street residents and businesses for your understanding.

9 May 2025 Work starts Monday on the wastewater pipe replacement

UPDATE: Friday, 9 May

On Monday, 12 May we start work installing a new wastewater pipe along Logan Street.

Here’s the key things to keep in mind:

  • We’ll be starting from where Mcparland Street intersects with Logan Street, and working our way up to the Queens Street roundabout (see the red line below).
  • There’ll be traffic management in place, but two lanes of traffic will be maintained.
  • There will be restrictions on traffic going both ways along Kowhai Ave, where it intersects with Logan Street.
  • We kindly ask that residents along Logan Street to please park their cars on their property, or close by away from the work site, while the work takes place.
  • We expect this work to be completed by around July/August although we expect the work near residential housing (from the Mcparland to the Sinclair St intersection) to take about a month to complete.
  • This builds on work we’re already doing along Logan Street to realign a drinking water pipe, shown in blue below.

A big thanks to local residents for your understanding and patience.
