BOIL WATER NOTICE - THOMPSON STREET, MOUNT COOK
BOIL WATER OUTAGE - THOMPSON STREET, MOUNT COOK

Wellington Water advises that residents of all properties on Thompson Street, Mt Cook, must boil their water before it is used for drinking, food preparation or dental hygiene.

Once the  burst pipe on Thompson Street is repaired, there is a low risk that the water has been contaminated with bacteria. The bacteria can be killed by boiling which is why a boil water notice has been issued as a precaution.

We will advise once the repair is completed and water service has been restored. This boil water notice is in effect from 2pm Friday 13th June 2025 until further notice.

Rata Street renewals

We are renewing the watermain on Rata Street from 213 Waddington Drive to 182 Rata Street, Naenae, Lower Hutt.

Work began in January 2025 and is on track to be completed in June 2025.

Hours of work will generally be between 7am and 6pm Monday to Saturday.

There will be some temporary restrictions to on-street car parking. Contractors will do their best to keep residents advised of which section of road will be affected by the following day’s work, and where to avoid parking.

Your assistance in avoiding parking in the intended work zone will help us to get the work done as quickly as possible.

Rata and Sunville water rezoning

We are installing pressure management equipment in the following streets as part of work rezoning the Rata and Sunville water supply zones.

This work will improve the resilience and reliability of the drinking water network.

Works will be carried out between late October  2024 to mid- February 2025.

We will be working with local residents to ensure they are notified in advance of any disruptions from the works.

Why are we doing this?

In 2022 a project assessing the state of the network, the Three Waters Renewals Project, identified a number of pipes that have reached the end of their design life or have been given a low condition grade.

The renewal of these pipes is being fast-tracked.

This is part of our ongoing work to improve the delivery of safe drinking water to homes and businesses,  and to reduce the risk of emergency repairs and/or outages and minimise risks to public health and the environment.
