BOIL WATER NOTICE - THOMPSON STREET, MOUNT COOK
BOIL WATER OUTAGE - THOMPSON STREET, MOUNT COOK

Wellington Water advises that residents of all properties on Thompson Street, Mt Cook, must boil their water before it is used for drinking, food preparation or dental hygiene.

Once the  burst pipe on Thompson Street is repaired, there is a low risk that the water has been contaminated with bacteria. The bacteria can be killed by boiling which is why a boil water notice has been issued as a precaution.

We will advise once the repair is completed and water service has been restored. This boil water notice is in effect from 2pm Friday 13th June 2025 until further notice.

Wellington Water is doing some investigation work on the stormwater pipes in Buller Grove, Naenae to better understand the condition and location of the pipes. This will involve a topographical survey using cameras and drones, accessing the network and using CCTV footage to better understand the condition of the pipes (shown in yellow below). This assessment will be used to inform any possible future investment in these pipes.

Why are we doing this work?

·       Initial assessments indicate that these pipes are in poor condition and, if left as is, could cause disruptions to stormwater service in the area.

·       These physical assessments will help validate and confirm the condition of the pipes, helping inform any possible future investment in this infrastructure.

·       These investigations will confirm which properties the pipe passes under.

Here are the key things for local residents to be aware of:

·       We are undertaking a topographical survey of the areas adjacent to the stormwater network and property boundaries using drones and cameras. This is to confirm the location of the pipe as it tracks down the property boundary.

·       As the work involves physically assessing the pipes, we will need to lift manhole lids in order to put CCTV cameras down the pipes. For this, we’ll need to access the public stormwater infrastructure, most of which is located on private property.

·       In most cases, the work will be completed in an hour or two.

·       If the work involves any disturbance to land (i.e. digging to access a manhole), we’ll let you know well in advance and complete a reinstatement agreement. This is a separate agreement that outlines what’s involved in the work, and how we’ll return the area to its original state.

·       The investigations are expected to start in mid-April and be completed by June 2025.

·       Standard hours of work are from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday
