WASTEWATER OVERFLOW - PROSSER STREET, TITAHI BAY
Wellington Water crews responding to a wastewater overflow on Prosser Street, Titahi Bay

Our team have responded to a wastewater overflow at the corner of Prosser Street and Titahi Bay Road.  This is the result of a burst wastewater pipe.

Excavation is currently underway. The pump station is operating but will need to be shutdown before repair. Plans to divert the wastewater flow away from the pipe is being developed as the pipe will also need to be shutdown before repair.

There has been an earlier discharge into the stormwater network. This has now stopped with sucker trucks managing the flow, preventing wastewater entering the stormwater network. Signage has been placed at the outlets into the harbour. Traffic management has been set up on Titahi Bay Road. One southbound lane has been closed.

A further update will be provided at approximately 11 am.

Wellington Water launches new southern service depot

Wellington Water marked the opening of its southern depot this week, with a breakfast meeting attended by the teams that will be based at the Rongotai location, along with representatives from Wellington City Council and Wellington Water’s board.

Depot chief Alistair Forsyth took the opportunity to recognise the long service to the water industry of Ben Matthews, Cameron Hawkins, Jason Dearman and Donny Haenga – each of whom have worked on repairing the region’s bursts and leaks for more than 15 years.

Around 20 water and drainage service people will be operating from the Rongotai depot, while the CCTV inspection team is still based at Carey’s Gully.

Customer Operations Group GM Kevin Locke told the gathering how he’d come to appreciate the significance of playing a role in looking after water, which is so fundamental to life. This theme was picked up on by Wellington City Council eastern ward councillor Chis Calvi-Freeman.

“Where there’s water, there’s life; where there’s no water, there are complaints,” he said. Both he and Wellington Water Board chair David Wright remarked on the importance of being customer focused in delivering water services, and acknowledged the care and commitment shown by frontline service teams.

The Rongotai depot, which is shared with our alliance partner Fulton Hogan, will serve all of Wellington City except the northern suburbs, which will be handled from the Porirua depot. Services for the Hutt Valley will operate from the depot in Pomare.
