Wellington Water crews responding to a wastewater overflow on Prosser Street, Titahi Bay

Our team have responded to a wastewater overflow at the corner of Prosser Street and Titahi Bay Road.  This is the result of a burst wastewater pipe.

Excavation is currently underway. The pump station is operating but will need to be shutdown before repair. Plans to divert the wastewater flow away from the pipe is being developed as the pipe will also need to be shutdown before repair.

There has been an earlier discharge into the stormwater network. This has now stopped with sucker trucks managing the flow, preventing wastewater entering the stormwater network. Signage has been placed at the outlets into the harbour. Traffic management has been set up on Titahi Bay Road. One southbound lane has been closed.

A further update will be provided at approximately 11 am.

Keep up-to-date with your water

Wellington residents can now receive instant alerts about water outages and incidents in their area through a new text notification service.

The customer experience team at Wellington Water created the service which will notify residents about any water incidents that directly affect their location of interest.

“We want to make it as easy as possible for the public to know what is happening to their water services in a timely and convenient way,” said Manager of Customer Experience at Wellington Water, Ian Dennis.

“To help this we’ve developed a subscribe-by-text service which will push notifications about disruptions to people based on a specific geographic area that they have signed up for.”

Residents can register up to three physical addresses on their mobile phones, to receive real time notifications on outages, incidents, or ongoing work in those areas.

“We wanted to make it easier for people to get notifications for key locations in their day-to-day. For example, you may be interested in getting updates for work where your elderly parents’ live, or updates for the local area where your child’s school is,” Dennis said.

The service went live this morning (Monday 4 October).

To register text ‘Hello’ to 8090 and follow the prompts.
