Severe weather conditions may impact the network

Due to severe weather conditions forecasted from today, 30 April until Friday 2 May, there may be impacts on the network,

Heavy rain increases the chance of excess stormwater entering the wastewater network, which it doesn’t have capacity for. This means there is a higher risk of wastewater overflows during wet weather events or emergencies such as major power cuts.

Our operations team are checking known risk areas and working to ensure that the stormwater network will be running as smoothly as possible.

Interim Wellington Water Chair appointed

Nick Leggett has been appointed as interim Chair of the Wellington Water Board after the departure of Lynda Carroll.

Nick was appointed to the Board in April 2022 and will take on the role as interim Chair, effective immediately.

“Nick as the interim Chair will bring strong leadership and governance experience to the role,” says Wellington Water Committee Chair Campbell Barry. “I look forward to working with Nick in his new role.”

With over 25 years of experience in local government, along with six years as Mayor of Porirua, Nick has strong governance credentials and has recently been appointed as Chief Executive of Infrastructure New Zealand.

“I’m excited to continue my work with the Board as interim Chair, the Water Committee, and the hard-working team at Wellington Water,” says Nick.

“The Wellington Water Board is laser-focused in preparing the organisation in the lead up to the Government’s Affordable Water Reform.  As we prepare for that change, we need to support our workforce, and continue our focus on delivery for our shareholder councils.”

A separate appointment process is underway to fill the currently vacant Director roles, which will be announced once completed.

Notes

Wellington Water is owned and funded by the Wellington, Hutt, Porirua, and Upper Hutt city councils, Greater Wellington Regional Council and South Wairarapa District Council. All six councils are equal shareholders.

Wellington Water is governed by a Board of Directors. The Board and our organisation receive overall leadership and direction from the Wellington Water Committee, which are also responsible for appointing members to the Board.

The Wellington Water Committee is made up of representatives from our council owners and mana whenua.
