Wastewater is transported along the wastewater network to a wastewater treatment plant where it’s treated, before being discharged to sea.

In Wellington, 154 million litres of wastewater goes to the four treatment plants every single day! All this needs to be processed and that includes everything the water brings with it.

Fun fact: some treatment plants have even had undies and jeans turn up!
