Wellington Water is looking at ways to further process wastewater sludge from the Moa Point and Western Wastewater Treatment Plants.

We need to significantly reduce the volumes being disposed of at Carey’s Gully at the Southern Landfill and find new ways to manage it more sustainably into the future as volumes increase with population growth.

Minimising sludge and improving management will allow Wellington to get on with reducing our general solid waste to landfill as well as reducing our carbon emissions.

We are proposing to build a new sludge minimisation facility and we will soon be engaging with the community to get feedback on this option.
