Stop-go traffic Wallace St 9am to 4pm, Mon-Fri

Published 02/08/2019

We are currently carrying out the enabling pipeline works for the Omāroro reservoir, a major project to build our city's water resilience.

As part of these enabling works, a stop/go traffic management system is operating. This will be in place for the foreseeable future while the works are carried out.

WHEN: Monday to Fridays  between 9am-4pm.

WHERE: Around the intersection of Wallace and Hargreaves streets

WHY: The stop-go system will protect workers and keep the public safe while work is being done to upgrade local pipes.

WHAT WILL IT MEAN FOR YOU?

The stop-go system will be needed intermittently during the day, when necessary for work to be conducted safely.  However, we would advise people to avoid the area and where possible use Adelaide Road as an alternative route to Wallace Street.

There will be full two-way vehicle access before 9.00am and after 4.00pm. And traffic management staff are on site and safe pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

Drivers can expect short delays and if at all possible, we encourage people to use Adelaide Road as an alternative route during the stop-go hours

We apologise for any inconvenience this will cause, but this is an important project for Wellington city. Omāroro will provide critical additional bulk water storage for Wellington’s central business district area and low-lying suburbs to improve operational and disaster resilience.

While we're doing this work, we are also taking the opportunity to upgrade local drinking water, storm water and wastewater pipes as well. Some phone, fibre and electricity cables are also being relocated.

Thank you for your patience!
