Lizard habitats created

A series of lizard habitats have been established near the site of the new Omāroro reservoir site ahead of work starting on preparing the site for construction.

Volunteers from the community and students from Wellington High School overseen by a team from the contractor HEB Construction, set up three different habitats in an area overlooking the reservoir site.

The habitats will be used to relocate any lizards or skinks founds during construction of the reservoir.

Made of logs, soil and leaf litter, the habitats and the permit to relocate the lizards are managed by the Department of Conservation for the range of different species of lizards and skinks found in Wellington.
