Serious near miss - potential fall from ceiling space - SUEZ Australia

On 20/03/2019 a young worker and tradesman were installing conditioning ductwork in the ceiling void. The young worker stood on a non-load bearing piece of wood that broke resulting in his foot penetrating the gyprock while he was moving between joists. Work was immediately stopped and the welfare of the both workers was checked. There were no injuries.

During routine works by a contractor on a wellington carriageway, a vehicle within a worksite self-mobilized and veered out of control that resulted in a team member losing their life. While the cause has not been confirmed, if the contractor had use a multi-barrier approach it would have gone a long way to prevent the incident.

At approximately 1:50 pm on Tuesday, our Higgins team in the Rotorua area suffered a devastating tragedy, losing three friends and colleagues when their work area was struck by a third-party truck while completing regular, programmed road maintenance activities along State Highway 2 near Whakatane where the maximum speed limit is 100 km/hr.
